Respond to the placement

After graduating from university, I hope to have a steady income for living and work-life balance, after working for a few years I might build up some working experience so that I can work as a freelance artist. 

My career aspiration is to work in a company or a gallery, it could be separated into two parts, one will be working as a creator or behind the industry. 

In choosing the placement, I’m misgiving about holding a workshop or working in a gallery. I want to learn more about the whole industrial operation behind, therefore I would like to know more about the 

I feel a bit stressed about the placement because I don’t have a clear direction. Also, I lack confidence in speaking to the public, so that’s the reason I hesitate on the ability of holding a workshop.

As I mentioned I still misgiving about which placement is suitable for me, so I plan to do more industry research. At the same time, I will do more self-prepare about the knowledge that is needed in the placement.

 02/03/2024 This morning, I went back to the Cadman building to arrange the art pieces with Rico and waited for Glen to come and pick the artpiece up. Anna provided a van for Rico and me so that we wouldn't have to bring the pieces ourselves in the horrible weather. When I took the train to Kidsgrove Canal, the weather was terrible: rainy, cold, and sleet. Especially after I got down from the Kidsgrove train station, the rain seemed heavier. The weather report had mentioned that the rain would last from 9 in the morning until the afternoon, so I was quite worried that the exhibition might be cancelled. However, when we started the art trails, the rain almost stopped, and visitors could enjoy the art journey. Initially, I was quite nervous and my speech was not very fluent. Meeting with Deb and Gemma

07/02/2024 (The meeting process) Today, I had a meeting with Deb and Gemma at the New Vic Theatre. During the meeting, we discussed the art pieces and the installation method. I also shared a sketch I did last week and showed them the map I plan to install. (the exhibition space)  However, I am unsure about the installation method as the ideal space on the wall is a bit bumpy, making it difficult to place the installation there. I asked Deb and Gemma for advice, and they suggested adding two support sticks at the back of the wood panel to make it safe. Before the meeting, I was worried about not being well prepared, especially when working with professionals. After the meeting, I felt relieved as Deb and Gemma were so nice and provided me with a lot of good advice. I also gained valuable experience in speaking up.

The process of making stickers and painting

23/02/2024 (The sample of different cutting) Last week, I spoke to the printing department about getting stickers printed. Ben showed me an online tutorial on how to create stickers, but he also informed me there would be a lot of cutting involved. Professional cutting involves cutting around the edge of the design through both the vinyl and backing paper. However, Ben reminded me to use Illustrator, which I'm not familiar with, so I spent a week learning how to use it.  (The working process) Besides the technical issues, the printing process is underway. When I was deciding on the proposal, I initially wanted to use oil paint. However, Ian suggested that I use acrylic paint instead. He explained that acrylic paint has more vibrant colors and is more suitable for outdoor exhibitions. It's also more affordable for me, especially since I've already spent a lot on the wood panel. So, I took his advice and started applying acrylic paint to the panel.
