First meeting with marketing team and the working process

This morning, I went to the 3D workshop to complete the laser cutting. In the process, I through the TROTEC software to send the document to the machine. However, one of the pieces is completely fit with the wood panel, which has no space for laser cutting. Therefore, Peter took a risk to do an experiment with me. Fortunately, the wood panel cut perfectly. Last but not least, I feel grateful in the working process that Peter gave a lot of support and patience in teaching me how to use the machine, so that I could complete the wood panel on time.


After that, I have the first meeting with the marketing team, mainly discussing the promotion material and briefly introducing our art pieces. In the meeting, we focused on the details of the posters, which needed to include the tagline, time, location, EPA website, and logo. Also, poster printing will be two weeks before the exhibition, so we need to confirm all the details before next week. In addition, the marketing team encouraged us to give the poster to shops to promote our exhibition, which is an opportunity for us to speak with the public. Other than that, Anna suggested us do Instagram posts as an online promotion. After the meeting, it reminded me of the importance of promotion, so I was inspired by the marketing team that I decided to make some stickers to promote my art pieces and the exhibition.

Meeting with Deb and Gemma

07/02/2024 (The meeting process) Today, I had a meeting with Deb and Gemma at the New Vic Theatre. During the meeting, we discussed the art pieces and the installation method. I also shared a sketch I did last week and showed them the map I plan to install. (the exhibition space)  However, I am unsure about the installation method as the ideal space on the wall is a bit bumpy, making it difficult to place the installation there. I asked Deb and Gemma for advice, and they suggested adding two support sticks at the back of the wood panel to make it safe. Before the meeting, I was worried about not being well prepared, especially when working with professionals. After the meeting, I felt relieved as Deb and Gemma were so nice and provided me with a lot of good advice. I also gained valuable experience in speaking up.

The final exbition

 02/03/2024 This morning, I went back to the Cadman building to arrange the art pieces with Rico and waited for Glen to come and pick the artpiece up. Anna provided a van for Rico and me so that we wouldn't have to bring the pieces ourselves in the horrible weather. When I took the train to Kidsgrove Canal, the weather was terrible: rainy, cold, and sleet. Especially after I got down from the Kidsgrove train station, the rain seemed heavier. The weather report had mentioned that the rain would last from 9 in the morning until the afternoon, so I was quite worried that the exhibition might be cancelled. However, when we started the art trails, the rain almost stopped, and visitors could enjoy the art journey. Initially, I was quite nervous and my speech was not very fluent. Site-visit Kidsgrove Canal

02/02/2024 I wanted to know more about the plant structure which could combine the features of Canal Folk Art easily. Therefore, I’m going site visit for reference. I enjoyed the process of quick sketching, nature around the canal brings me inner peace. The environment is quite different from my last visit on December 10th. The rose hip is no longer present and instead, there are a lot of Daffodils. As a result, I have changed my sketch to reflect the current season, which includes Ivy, Daffodils, Rubus, and Moss on the back of the wall. After the site visit, I went back to the studio to stick the wood panel together; after that, putting the wood protector and gesso to make sure it water waterproof.
